Cubism In Asia: Unbounded Dialogues

The Singapore Art Museum has a spectacular display of works. It's a pity that only a trickle of people bother to make a trip there. Currently, a vast collection of Asian Cubist masterpieces is being exhibited. Cubism In Asia : Unbounded Dialogues will end its run on 9 April 2006. Catch it while you can.

One of the featured works: Mother and Child

Del managed to knock off early yesterday and we went to SAM. The exhibition provided an insight to the history of Cubism and its influence on Fauvism, Futurism, Constructivism and to some extent, Expressionism. Interestingly, the concept of the collage originated from synthetic cubism. It also traced the local influences on Cubism in the Asian context. A chronological listing of Cubists who originated from Europe can be found here, with Picasso and Braque as its pioneers.

We seized the opportunity to view the other ongoing exhibitions like Art of Our Time (with famous works of Georgette Chen, Liu Kang and other local artists) and The Inoyama Donation: A Tale of Two Artists (featuring Indonesian artist Heri Dono & local artist Wong Shih Yaw).

Look at the monstrous amount of food!

Del and I had dinner at a cafe near Raffles Hotel. Adeline had just completed her facial and joined us for dinner. Find her a tad familiar? She's a semi-finalist in the Miss Singapore Universe 2006 pageant. The prelude's tonight. Good luck, Adeline! Dinner was a whopping plate of steak, lamb, chicken, bacon, ham, sausage, egg and fries while Del's was a humble dory fillet in comparison. Adeline and I slurped happily on lychee sorbets for dessert while Del had his coffee. There wasn't a need for late night supper after that! Heh.
